I spent Friday evening lamenting my very poor financial situation and the host of excellent nights I was going to miss the coming weekend. I was really looking forward to fabric on Saturday, having just got back from Ibiza that morning in very good spirits, and the evening started well with a few local drinks for one of my dearest friend’s birthdays. Hello world, I am back from my Facebook break. I de-activate my Facebook account every 6-8 months for a few days or sometimes even a week.  I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who feels they spend too much time on Facebook.  It has allowed me time away to reprioritise my life and concentrate on other things – I was spending way too much time on there!  I’m sure I probably missed out on a few things that would have interested or amused me, but life goes on. I have to say that going to London to watch the Royal Wedding was one of the best decisions of my life.  Everything about the day was exceptional, it is not so easy to put into words. This weekend just gone was one of those fairly rare weekends where everything looks so exciting, and everything and everyone comes together as planned quite spectacularly. The highlight was always going to be my trip to fabric, only my third this year – for Cocoon – also my third Cocoon event of the year. As I speculated last week, fabric has gone into administration. This is not something to panic about necessarily. When a company goes into administration, the administrators that are appointed, assess whether it can remain as a going concern and be handed back to the original company directors, whether it can be sold on as a going concern, or finally whether all assets have to be sold, creditors paid off and the company liquidated (ie no more company). I remain convinced from what I have seen that fabric can remain a going concern and become profitable once more. The losses in …

Following matter’s closure, rumours are abound that fabric might follow too. Here is my assessment: For the last accounts filed for the year ending 2008, they had a negative net worth of £150k, and had made a loss of approx £220k, but that was on a turn-over of £8m. Add on a loss of £180k that I read earlier for year ending 2009 (not filed at Companies House yet), this would give them a negative net worth of £330k, assuming there was no other financial input from the backers – I’m not sure how much the owners are worth, if …
