Cancelling My fabric Membership

Hard times.  Not that I ever go any more but I do like the CDs and sense of belonging. ***** Dearest fabric It pains me to say it but I am going to have to cancel my membership.  Temporarily, of course. I am trying to work out how long I have been a fabricfirst member.  I would take a metaphorical synth stab at 11 years.  I have every one of your CDs.  Room 1 feels like home (well, until my feet get tired and I realise it actually isn’t my home).  I still have my original leather membership card – …

The Psychology Of Unemployment

I hadn’t forgotten the psychology of unemployment but maybe I had underestimated it – until now I had been generally as positive as normal.  I’m not one of those impossibly-happy types but generally I am positive about myself, the world – bar the odd moan or ten, especially about Brexit. It’s easy to sit here and criticise the unemployed, and there sure is a fair-sized collective of scumbags who simply don’t want to work.  I’m sure I could get A job tomorrow if I was not bothered about what I wanted to do. Maybe I am simply being a bit …

Unemployment Begins

So I have just returned from job centre minus for the second time this week. It was inspirational, invigorating, exciting, relevant and demeaning. So inspirational that I have poured myself a beer.  Though I was going to do that anyway – I’ve had a tough, busy week.  More on that in a minute.  Plus it is listed in the conditions for jobseekers that I spend some of it on beer. Last time I was made unemployed, it took me nearly two months to get around to applying for benefits as I was having too much fun.  This time I thought …

4 Months Unemployed…

Well, technically I have only been unemployed for 3-4 weeks now because of that temping job I did just before Christmas. But it was 4 months since I officially left Verizon. I am still very positive and confident that I will get a job, and get the right job for me too. Last week was fairly busy with regards to interviews, agencies, phone calls, job applications, etc but this week has gone a bit crazy – I think I have had about a dozen phone calls with agencies about various jobs in just two days, and 3 interviews so far …

2 Months Unemployed

So I have now reached two months unemployed (three months not working). It isn’t so much fun any more. Generally speaking I remain confident, and positive about the situation – but I do have a few temporary moments of despair, but they are very short-lived, never for more than a day…I just have to keep plugging away! The worst thing about it is the amount of time I spend by myself, inside the same walls, driving myself a little crazy sometimes – but I do set myself plenty of tasks to keep me occupied and I have a good, sensible …

Being Unemployed

Being unemployed isn’t as easy as I thought it was going to be.  Finding a new job is also not as easy as I thought it was going to be. There is a distinct lack of structure.  For example, right now I should be super-excited as it is approaching 5pm on a Friday, but I am just merely contentedly amused. This morning, I should have woken up after 2 hours sleep feeling dog-rough, but no, I got to have a nice long lay-in which has set me up for a fairly productive Friday so far and I don’t have a …

My Final Payday?

Well for a couple of months at least I guess. I received my final pay-day from Verizon today which should see me comfortable for a little while without a job but I must admit I am getting itchy feet and hands at the moment and don’t really want to be unemployed for much longer. I haven’t actually been unemployed since I left university in 2000, every time I got a new job I just started the week after leaving one. So this is quite new to me. When I was offered redundancy…well it wasn’t so much of an offer, I …
